Both operate under the illusion, although to different degrees, that pumping more money into the military and law enforcement makes these entities better and more efficient. The reform and accountability that is needed will not come.
Regarding police departments, reform does not mean following the simplistic narratives of racial politics. Police departments that are stagnant, inefficient beuracracies full of clout and cronyism need change, not more money. Police work should not be the reinvented brainchild of politicians, bigshots, academics and other elites. What it should be is already discussed in other blogs.
